Instinct and Eating Disorders “And don’t listen to me, either. Do trust your bravest parental instincts.”

- Instinct
When your child is ill do you trust your instincts?
Why not trust your instincts when your child has an eating disorder such as Anorexia? Is it because you don’t know anyone with Anorexia? We have individually learned lots about cancer, have lots of family and friends who have had it, beat it, lost to it. Is it because the professionals say they know so much about it and the Centers are so eager to take your child and fix the problem?
My daughter suffered for years when I turned her over to the experts. I did not trust my instincts, I was guilted into letting the “experts” take her away from me, help isolate her from me. Now she is Recovering, because I said “ENOUGH”, took her out of the system at great risk and being scared out of my mind. I used my motherly instincts, isolated her at a campground and followed a book entitled “Feed The Starving Mind” where I found so many “common sense” tips. Her recovery is the longest ever now, so I am sharing my story. It may not work for everyone, but the more knowledge we have, the more we will be able to help our loved ones.
Motivating me to write this morning was my morning email from Laura’s blog:
She said “And don’t listen to me, either. Do trust your bravest parental instincts.”
